Subject: Re: [Cz-editcouncil] Introductions and wiki work
Colleagues,
I look forward to our working hard together and to our accomplishing a lot!
I've known Larry since nupedia days, and look forward to contributing to
this venture.
Below is a brief bio; for more about me, please see my homepage at
http://www.andrewcarpenter.net/ or my academic vitae at
http://www.andrewcarpenter.net/vitae.htm.
Dr. Andy Carpenter is a professional philosopher who loves on-line teaching
and learning. He was educated at Amherst College (B.A.), the University of
Oxford (B.Phil), and the University of California at Berkeley ( Ph.D.). Andy
is a specialist in epistemology, the philosophy of science, philosophical
logic, and the history of early modern philosophy, especially Immanuel
Kant's theoretical philosophy and philosophy of science. Andy currently
works in the graduate programs of Kaplan University , where he teaches
research methods, statistics, and applied ethics courses; oversees student
thesis projects; and acts as liaison with the University's institutional
review board. He also has significant interest in academic accreditation,
assessment of student learning, and institutional research, especially
qualitative research of student learning.
Dr. Carpenter previously served as chair of Kaplan University's humanities
department and head of the interdisciplinary history, philosophy, and
religious studies area at Antioch College. Andy is an active researcher who
has delivered over fifty scholarly presentations and published over thirty
articles, reviews, and peer-reviewed web projects. He recently served on the
board of directors of the American Association of Philosophy Teachers and is
a panelist on the AskPhilosophers.Org <http://www.askphilosophers.org/> web
project.
I've enjoyed learning about the distinguished group that Larry has gathered
together, and look forward to reading introductions from other colleagues.
Larry, I've been so busy that I haven't yet looked hard for opportunities
for good wiki work that I could do, but I'll schedule some time for this and
look forward to beginning my own substantive contribution to the project...
All the best,
Andy.

Dear editors,
Will you please do two things for me today, or this weekend anyway?
(1) Introduce yourself, briefly, to the list. Others will appreciate this.
(2) Actually do at least a little work on the wiki. It's embarrassing to
think there are people in authority, as you all are now, who have not
actually edited the wiki. This is a working Council; it isn't merely an
advisory body, members of which can get by without considerable knowledge of
the project.
You might also want to update your user page. I *believe* you all have bios
on the wiki (I don't think I would have invited you if you didn't), but if
you don't, please add one.
More later about council procedures and our first topics.
