[Cz-editcouncil] [Citizendium-l] New Editorial Council

Hello All,

I certainly agree that the age restriction may be set too high. I would
suggest that since someone can easily graduate with a 4 year degree by the
age of 22, that we should at least change the age requirement to that.

Best,

John Moffett

Dear Fellow EC member,

I do not understand what this is about condition 4. Condition 4 is the rule
requiring members to be at least 25 years old and to have a 4-year college
degree or equivalent. This rule can be exempted by agreement of the Council
and I certainly give my agreement to this in the case of the three author
members below.

As members of the previous EC will recall, I opposed the existence of rule 4
from the outset, as being far too restrictive. May I suggest that we
consider amending it forthwith? This seems necessary as there are still not
enough members of the Council.

With best wishes

Martin Baldwin-Edwards

Dear All,
As announced on April 08, 2008, I had put up the following cases to the
Editorial Council for being included as special cases as they are active
members of CZ and also willing to serve the EC. As there has been no
objection, within one week, i.e., by Tuesday April 15, 2008, 03:30 hrs,UTC,
I am including them in the list of EC members.
User Pages:
1. http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/User:Robert_W_King - selected to be an
Author member (2008 - 2010)
2. http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/User:Christian_Kleineidam - selected to be
an Author member (2007 - 2009)
3. http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/User:Carl_Jantzen - selected to be an
Author member (2007 - 2009)

However, there is a caveat attached to it:
When these people were originally invited to join, I did not adequately
explain that they needed to fulfill condition 4. Rather than embarrass them
and us by withdrawing the offer, we are including them. However, I will be
advising any future Selection Officials that we must first ask all
candidates if they fulfill condition 4. The fact that these Citizens are
included in this Council does not mean that we are simply scrapping
condition 4 without a vote; it should not be interpreted as a precedent for
anything other than how to deal with an administrative error."

We are still short of 4 Editor members and 1 author member, the vacancies
that we hope to fill up soon.

We have a lot of work to do and I would like the Council to be formed fully
before it can start functioning. Hopefully, this time round, there will be
more active interest and participation from the selected Citizens

With warmest regards
Supten Sarbadhikari
Chair and Selection Official, CZ Editorial Council
