All,
I have a short comment about Council operations that I hope is not out of
order. Considering the amount of disagreement with resolution 12, I am
surprised that there was not more discussion about it. It would be very
helpful if those of us who disagree with a resolution would state their
case.
Also, at least two people said that the resolution should be changed in this
way or that, but they didn't propose any amendment. I might have helped
myself, but I have been very busy lately, and I think it's very important
that we get into the habit of doing things independently of the
Editor-in-Chief. It is very easy to suggest an amendment: just say on this
list, after discussion has begun, that you propose such-and-such a change to
the resolution. Then the Chair can either call for a vote on the amendment
or, if it seems unobjectionable, the Chair can ask that the amendment to be
adopted "by acclamation." That just takes at a minimum one e-mail and you
have done your job; the Chair and Secretary can handle all the rest.
Of course, I realize that it's the summer...
