Dear Council members,
Nominations are now in order for the office of Chair. Please submit
nominations, either of yourself or of another person, privately to me, not
to this list. Be sure to check the "to" line in your mail.
Nominations will be closed in exactly one week.
The duties of the Chair, a one-year position, are spelled out here:
http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/CZ:Editorial_Council_Rules_of_Procedure
While I hope the Editorial Council will be more active in 2008-9 than it has
been in the previous year, I have found, especially with the help of an
active Secretary, that my chair-specific duties, beyond my participation in
the Council itself, did not occupy more than a few minutes every week.
The person who is elected to Chair should be both committed to thsi project
and have adequate time, as the recently-passed rules for the selection of
the Chair state (see http://tinyurl.com/2nshfq). Unless you
1. can attest in good conscience [in an e-mail to me] that they have
adequate time to execute the duties of Chair, and
2. continue to support fully the fundamental policies of the
Citizendium community.
you aren't eligible.
Under our rules, the Chair should be selected from among the still-eligible
members who entered in the previous year (this list was prepared by Supten).
These eligible individuals include the following (in alphabetical order):
Martin Baldwin-Edwards
Regina Bouillon
Garry Giamboi
David Goodman
Richard Jensen
John Moffett
Anh Nguyen
Jaime Nubiola
Supten Sarbadhikari
Anthony Sebastian
David Shapinsky
David Tribe
Jochen Wendebaum

Dear All,
Here is the list of citizens (editors) that satisfies the items marked 1-4

i.e., citizens who
(1) have made his or her first edit of the wiki at least one month prior to
the present time (3.18.08);
(2) have edited the main namespace or the main talk namespace of wiki, in
good faith, at least 20 times in the past year; and
(3) have made at least one edit in the last three months.
(4) be at least 25 years old and have a four-year college degree (or
equivalent, in the judgment of the Selection Official), unless the person
occupies one of the elected positions.
AND
(5) As per
http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/CZ:Editorial_Council_Resolution_0007#VI._Coun
cil_start-up_period. "who voted on at least one-half of the resolutions for
which they were not disqualified from voting for any reason. "
(i) Larry Sanger - However, as the EIC he may continue as a non-voting
member in the EC
(ii) Supten Sarbadhikari
(iii) Martin Baldwin-Edwards
(iv) Gary Giamboi
(v) John Moffett
(vi) Anh Nguyen
(vii) Jochen Wendebaum
(viii) David Tribe

(xiv) Jaime Nubiola and
(xv) Matt Innis - since he is a member of the Constabulary, he may have to
relinquish any one position as per rules.
Please let me know, within a week, whether the above named editors would
like to continue in the new EC.
With warmest regards
Supten

rial_Council_roles now points to

tion_of_the_Editorial_Council_Chair.
Para 4 of the Section V states: "After one week, the Chair announces the
candidates. A private balloting is then done by the Secretary, who allots
one week for the vote and who announces the result. All members, including
outgoing members, may participate in this vote."
Since Larry is himself not a candidate for the post of the Chair, he may
conduct the private balloting.
If he can announce the candidates latest by March 24, 2008, then the
s/election for the Chair of the EC can be completed by March 31, 2008 and
the new Chair and the new EC can take charge from Tuesday April 01, 2008.
I have written to the competent authority for providing me with the list of
editors eligible to be the members of the Editorial Council, as per the
rules.
Only on the basis of voting on the Resolutions proposed so far, there are 20
members who qualify. Among them 2 are also part of the Executive Committee
and / or Constabulary. The number is likely to be further reduced when the
count of edits is available.
Please feel free to clarify any doubts you may have.
With warmest regards
Supten

All,
I will soon be replaced as Chair. According to the newly-passed rules, the
Editorial Council Chair is replaced each year from among the people who
entered the Council in the previous year--and, in the present case, it is
important to add: from among the people who are eligible to continue on the
Council in the coming year.
We have run past a certain deadline, I'm afraid! The Chair was supposed
call for nominees for new Chair in the first week of March, but that was
impossible since the resolution wasn't adopted until March 13. Therefore, I
propose the following schedule:
1. The Secretary (Supten) presents me with a list of current members who are
eligible, according to the rules, to continue for the next year on the
Council and (therefore) to serve as Chair. If you are concerned about your
eligibility see Hopefully he'll have this done in the next few days.
2. I immediately call for (private) nominations from among these members.
(Again, hopefully in the next few days.) Reminders are posted after 3 and 6
days.
3. As nominations come in, I contact the nominees to see whether they can
attest to time and support requirements in the rules.
4. One week after the call for nominations (approximately March 26), the
nominations close. The candidates are immediately announced.
5. The Secretary does a private balloting, unless the Secretary is among the
nominees, in which case I propose to nominate another person to do the
balloting. Note that outgoing members are eligible to vote!
6. Of course, the nominees may use cz-editcouncil and/or the wiki to post
any statements they would like to make.
7. The Secretary (or other balloting official) announces the result after
one week, or--probably--at the same time that the new Council members are
announced.
The soon-to-be-ex-Chair
