[Cz-editcouncil] S/Election of the Secretary for 2008-2009

Dear Colleagues,

Assuming that this is an uncontested election (!), I am honoured to take up the position of Secretary. I hope that I can do as good a job as our first Secretary, Supten, whose guidance may well be needed in negotiating the labyrinth of Editorial Council procedures.

For those few of you who have had no contact with me, I suppose I should say a few words about myself. I am predominantly an academic, but one with strong involvement in government policy. Thus, I am simultanously a university teacher, director of a small university-based research centre, and employee of an intergovernmental agency based in Vienna. My field of expertise is international migration and related government policy areas; in disciplinary terms, I suppose I am a socio-political economist. I have worked extensively with academic publishers, and founded two international social science journals in the mid-1990s -one of which I edited for several years. 

I look forward to working with all of you over the next year.

  Dear All,
  John R Moffett nominated Martin Baldwin-Edwards for the Secretary of the CZ Editorial Council, and his nomination
  is hereby seconded by me.  Martin has assured the Chair that he can spare the time needed. No other nominations were received.

  Therefore, we are installing Martin as the new Secretary with effect from today May 02, 2008 and his tenure will be ending on March 31, 2009. He will act as per http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/CZ:Editorial_Council_Rules_of_Procedure

  We may take a vote if anyone wishes to, but I do not see the necessity.

  I am sure he will make a fine Secretary. I formally welcome him and request Martin to introduce himself and his position to the Council.
