From sanger at citizendium.org Thu Mar 26 14:40:51 2009 From: sanger at citizendium.org (Larry Sanger) Date: Thu, 26 Mar 2009 15:40:51 -0400 Subject: [WatchKnow-Discuss] Prelim content push now under way Message-ID: <6086292E46B047389582F97B26AEB165@D7WRQ591> All, In preparation for our late spring/early summer launch, we've got a team of people moving lots of new videos to the system. Our goal is 2,000 videos by April 2. We'll see! You'd be more than welcome to join in! http://www.watchknow.org/ I find it strangely addictive, but maybe that's because I have a little boy and he can already watch stuff appropriate for toddlers...I have used WatchKnow to organize some stuff I've shown to him. What is the point of WatchKnow anyway? Isn't it just a search engine? No, it is a "value-added" directory of free educational videos for kids. Not only do we collect together videos and make them searchable, we give them consistently useful titles and descriptions, ratings that help compare videos from many different websites, and--most importantly--we place like videos together, in a useful, soon-to-be giant directory. In short, we do teachers' and parents' video collecting for them. We find the best educational videos out there, and we organize and rate them. We are convinced that this will be very useful to very many people. PLEASE DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE AUTO IMPORT BUTTON. Yes, it's there, but if you use it, your uploads will be credited to "Anonymous". This is a known bug and they should be squashing it real soon now. Just bear in mind that we're heavy in the middle of programming right now, so the website might be intermittently buggy. BTW if you are a teacher or education professional and want Media Review Panel rights in the system, that can be arranged; tell me a bit about yourself (or send a resume) and let me know what username you created in the system, and I can get you started. --Larry ----- Lawrence M.
