The top problems: titles are too vague, and descriptions are too brief. --Larry From sanger at citizendium.org Thu Nov 12 10:10:02 2009 From: sanger at citizendium.org (Larry Sanger) Date: Thu, 12 Nov 2009 11:10:02 -0500 Subject: [Watchknow-l] Good biology animations to grab Message-ID: http://www.dnalc.org/resources/animations/index.html From sanger at citizendium.org Fri Nov 13 18:28:53 2009 From: sanger at citizendium.org (Larry Sanger) Date: Fri, 13 Nov 2009 19:28:53 -0500 Subject: [Watchknow-l] Help build a list of unembeddable video sites Message-ID: <5FBD1489AA714AC995A15167E4408851@D7WRQ591> There are many sites that have lots of unembeddable videos. We want to include them in WatchKnow, too. I'm starting a list of them right now: http://www.watchknow.org/Category.aspx?CategoryID=3132 Category pages are basically wiki pages. So, help me! Add to the list! --Larry From sanger at citizendium.org Mon Nov 16 17:28:59 2009 From: sanger at citizendium.org (Larry Sanger) Date: Mon, 16 Nov 2009 18:28:59 -0500 Subject: [Watchknow-l] Latest site update Message-ID: <82B602BF1DF0414BA53452DE275BF405@D7WRQ591> Check out the site now...in Firefox, if you have it. It'll look weird in IE, we're working on that. There are helper info bubbles (all the little "i" bubbles you see, especially when editing a video). Click on them for extra help. --Larry From sanger at citizendium.org Thu Nov 19 09:38:23 2009 From: sanger at citizendium.org (Larry Sanger) Date: Thu, 19 Nov 2009 10:38:23 -0500 Subject: [Watchknow-l] Traffic report + software updated (really this time) Message-ID: <8E092A61CAA040718FCD1CAEDE0CA1DA@D7WRQ591> All, Traffic yesterday was the busiest it ever has been, on account of blog posts from Education Week and eSchoolNews. Traffic is remaining high today (at 10 AM Eastern Time, we already had more visitors than we did all day long Monday), so you should see a lot of new people on the site. Teacher reviews of the site that I've seen online have been uniformly positive. This makes me really really happy--more than anything it's what makes me think we have a hit on our hands. Also, the WatchKnow software now really has been updated. I said it was a few days ago, but then, I didn't know that the changes at the time were posted accidentally and the programmers soon took the changes down. But now the changes are back up and looking better. The biggest changes are: * There are now help notes wherever I think you might need extra help; just click wherever you see it. There are a bunch of info bubbles in the edit video windows in particular. * We no longer ask for embed code. We grab it automatically when you supply us with the URL. If we can't grab the embed code, we'll just link to whatever URL you give us (once the video is approved, naturally). * Whenever you or anyone has left a comment on a video, you'll get a direct link to the comments area from the category page (and other pages). This and some other big changes coming down the pike are going to make it a lot easier for us to talk to each other on the site, which right now is a bit of a problem. * If you look after "My Account," and you have panelist permissions, you'll see a number. That's the number of items "to do" you'll see when you click on "My Account"--very handy. Oops, I see we have a lot to do just now... * The pages that link to unembeddable videos are now redesigned so it's clearer and easier to click on the link to the video. I think links to unembeddable videos are going to be one of our more unique and useful features in the long run. --Larry -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
