This [[CZ:Eduzendium|Eduzendium]] project is a way of providing students an opportunity to practice for a lifetime of quickly researching new technologies, plus exploring the ramifications of being out on the web (i.e., not anonymous). Students will collaborate in small groups (2-4 students) to write an article in Citizendium on an "emerging technology" topic (to be pre-approved by the instructors).  Groups will also present their results to the class at the end of the course. Training will be provided on using the Penn library, which includes "deep web" references such as academic journals, patent searches, and business surveys.

Project Description

The instructors decided to utilize Eduzendium as a way of providing students an opportunity to practice for a lifetime of quickly researching new technologies, plus exploring the ramifications of being out on the web (i.e., not anonymous).

TO STUDENTS: feel free to customize your user pages any way you wish. Until the course ends, I suggest that you retain a pointer on your user page to this course page so other authors will know that you are involved with Eduzendium.

A portion of your course grade will be obtained by participating as an author throughout the CZ:Computers_Workgroup. Below is a list of articles that students will be working on during the Summer II 2010 semester (July and early August). These articles will be closed to editing by other citizens until after the conclusion of the course, though we'd appreciate hearing any comments or suggestions you might have on their respective talk pages.

The course mechanics

Eduzendium courses need a number of help pages in order to function properly within the Citizendium. This course homepage and all its standard subpages have been set up with the standard names in their standard location: A template article to prefill the students's pages with course-specific formatting and content, a template for the metadata of your course's article, and a note informing other Citizens whether they are allowed to edit your course's pages or not. Please modify these pages as you see fit. If you are done, you can delete the whole section The course mechanics from your course homepage.

What We'll Be Working On

For each of the articles you plan to have your students work on, please add a line of the form {{r_EZ|Title of your course's article 1}}, which will display as

etc.

Once the articles have been created, they will be listed here in the following formatting:

Here is an example article from a previous year: (no longer locked, so edited by others as well)
