The sport of football in Italy is administered by the Italian Football Federation (Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio; FIGC). Italy first played an international match on 15 May 1910 when they defeated France 6–2 in Milan. The FIGC joined FIFA and Italy went on to become a leading nation in world football. The team has won the FIFA World Cup four times, most recently in 2006. In 1954, the FIGC was a founder member of UEFA. Among the most famous Italian footballers are Giuseppe Meazza, Roberto Baggio and Paolo Maldini.
