I am an undergraduate in the school of Arts and Sciences at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and am originally from Stow, MA.  I entered the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences as an entomology major in fall of 2003, but later switched to majoring in biology with a concentration in neurobiology and behaviorMy expected date of graduation is May 2008.  I'm planning to go to graduate school in neurobiology and behavior after graduation, and am applying in the fall of the upcoming year.

My primary interest in contributing to the  Citizendium is in the field of neurobiology and behavior; however, I've contributed to articles on Wikipedia in other areas of biology, chemistry, and physics, and expect to do so here as wellI am also interested in scientific classification, although I am unsure how large a part this will play in the Citizendium. My organisms of choice generally belong to the class Insecta, although I have an interest in herpetology as well.  As for nonscientific interests, I am a member and part of the executive board of the Cornell Japanese Animation Society.  Anime, manga, and other aspects of Japanese popular culture are a hobby of mine.  I watch a great deal of it, and am interested in how they reflect how Japan deals views their social problems as well as their role in history as an aggressor.  I am also an avid reader of both fiction and non fiction, and am always happy to contribute information about various authors and works that I have come across.

Hi! I'm an amoeba and I write Citizendium articles. So can you!
Biology Week is on!
Join us this week, September 22-28

You're invited to work on high priority articles, or simply start a new one!
It's a Workgroup Week. If an amoeba can participate, so can you!

(Are you new? This is a good day to get a Quick Start.)

Workgroups are no longer used for group communications, but they still are used to group articles into fields of interest. Each article is assigned to 1-3 Workgroups via the article's Metadata.

Taxonomy

Insect classification, like much of taxonomy, has been going through rather dramatic changes recently. The most complete source for up-to-date classification seems to be ITIS. As such, I've decided that the site will be my final authority on taxonomy. I notice that Wikipedia uses more recent material in their classification, but I'm hesitant to do that, mostly because taxonomy is often interdependent, and one paper does not a new order make.
