Domergue Sumien is a linguist and a teacher in Occitan language. He has a Phd in linguistics ("Occitan Studies", Université Paul Valéry, Montpellier) and a postgraduate certificate in history (Université de Provence, Aix-en-Provence).
He was born in 1968. He now lives in Provence (Occitania).
His main research fields are:
- Linguistics
- Romance languages, especially Occitan and Catalan
- Sociolinguistics, especially language planning and language ideology
- Lexicography and lexicology
- History, especially the analysis of afrocentrism in Cheikh Anta Diop's works and their ideological issues concerning large scale history, large scale comparative linguistics and language planning.
