Robert Mugabe (1924-) is the current President of Zimbabwe and leader of the Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF). He is the Republic of Zimbabwe's 2nd president, succeeding former President Canaan Banana in 1987. Prior to his presidency, he held the post of Prime Minister, effectively serving as Zimbabwe's national leader since 1980.
