I got your stats on animal coiling. Unfortunately, numbers are not yet large enough. HOWEVER, I plan to continue our poll during next write-a-thon. Quick Start | About us | Help system | Start a new article | For Wikipedians |
Tasks: start a new article • add basic, wanted or requested articles • add definitions • add metadata • edit new pages
Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start, and see Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, our help system and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forum is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any user or the editors for help, too. Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun!
You can find some more information about our collaboration groups if you follow this link Citizendium_Pilot:Discipline_Workgroups. Look at the left bar and you'll find other useful links. You can always ask me on my talk page or others about how to proceed or any other question you might have.

- I'm in the department of Microbiology at your campus. Cheers David Tribe 08:20, 6 April 2007 (CDT)
- Can I stop by your department sometime and pester you with lots and lots of questions? Microbiology isn't my field exactly, but it does fascinate me ... --Louise Valmoria 15:56, 12 August 2007 (CDT)
Thanks for volunteering for wikiconversion of word-processor files
Louise, thank you for volunteering. Your joining makes an even dozen. We might have a big enough group that we can start advertising the service in our recruitment drives. --Anthony.Sebastian (Talk) 11:23, 3 November 2007 (CDT)
New Workgroups / Philanthropy Workgroup? / Workgroup Mailing List Discussion
I've been reviewing the workgroup lists as there are two mailing lists that need to be added--for Robotics and Food Science--I intend to set these up today, although I would like to know if there are have been any names put forward for editors under these groups. I also note the appearance of a new Philanthrophy Workgroup on this page. Is this a confirmed new workgroup so I may set up a new list as appropriate? Thanks. --Louise Valmoria 10:30, 18 November 2007 (CST)
- Philanthropy is not confirmed. The way to go about adding workgroups is to place requests with rationales at CZ:New_Workgroup_Requests. There are soon going to be lots more workgroups created, all at once, through process of the Editorial Council. Cheers, Stephen Ewen 01:00, 5 December 2007 (CST)
- Thanks for the clarification, Stephen. I'm not a part of the Editorial Council, but I do create the mailing lists; is there a particular page that I need to watch to be aware of the new workgroup names, or can I get a heads-up as to the names of the new workgroups so I may can quickly set up mailing lists on Mailman as appropriate? Cheers,--Louise Valmoria 06:57, 5 December 2007 (CST)
Mailing list for submitting requests for MediaWiki markup
Louise, I responded to your excellent suggestion where you put it on my Talk page. --Anthony.Sebastian (Talk) 16:59, 18 November 2007 (CST)
Louise, any further thoughts? --Anthony.Sebastian (Talk) 17:43, 23 November 2007 (CST)
- Louise, no comments from the group, so I assume no issues. 'cz-wikiformat' sounds okay to me for name of mailing list. I can notify each volunteer to sign up, and we can put the announcement on the general list asking them again to sign up, and asking for additional volunteers.
- Any further suggestions. Larry will be pleased when we can advertise the service, on the main page and elsewhere. --Anthony.Sebastian (Talk) 21:05, 3 December 2007 (CST)
Write-a-thon
Way to go, Ms Valmoria! Thanks for coming to the party. Have you checked out the previous shindigs? Hilarious reading! Keeping dropping by the page, it gets funnier as 'Wednesday' moves across the globe. Aleta Aleta Curry 16:13, 4 December 2007 (CST)
- Are you in London or Melbourne at the mo? I'm in NSW and starting to yawn--see all you wild and crazy partiers in the morning! Aleta Curry 04:13, 5 December 2007 (CST)
- In Melbourne at the mo! The Write-A-Thon was great fun--there's twenty minutes left of the day in this timezone--thanks for advising me to keep an eye on the page, will definitely keep checking in on everyone else's Wednesday. Thanks for being so welcoming!--Louise Valmoria 06:42, 5 December 2007 (CST)
Subpage inclusions
Thanks for the pick-up and edit/additions on those articles, Louise. I can be a bit sloppy about that! Blessings... --Michael J. Formica 14:55, 6 December 2007 (CST)
Re 'wiki-converting'
Louise: Regarding your volunteering to 'wiki-convert' word-processor files from subscribers, please see: http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/CZ:Wiki-converting. For tracking, use section with your name as title. --User_talk:Anthony.Sebastian
Your note of 01/01/2008 on my Talk page, and my reply:
- Hi Anthony, thanks for the nudge on the Citizendium-L list to get remaining volunteers to sign up to the list. I have just checked through the membership list and there are 15 mailing list members, not all of them on the volunteer list, but hopefully they will contribute as well. The project should be ready to advertise whenever you see it fit.
- There are a couple of issues with spam on some of the other CZ mailing lists at the moment, so for initial launch we'll need to notify that non-member postings will be held for approval before sent through to the list, but all legitimate postings will get sent through fairly quickly. Many thanks for organising this, Anthony! Louise Valmoria 13:48, 1 January 2008 (CST)
- Thanks, Louise. Do you have some way I can keep track of the subscribers to the list: http://mail.citizendium.org/mailman/listinfo/cz-wikiformat? The reason I ask: I would like to contact those subscribers who have not put their names on the volunteer list to confirm/disconfirm their willingness to serve as wiki-converters, and I would like to make sure all who have volunteered have subscribed to the list.
- Re monitoring the list for legitimate requests for help, how does that get done? Does it make extra work for you?
- Looks like we can advertise soon. Will want to get Larry to approve any advertizing text, and offer suggestions.
--Anthony.Sebastian 14:52, 1 January 2008 (CST)
- Thanks, Anthony. The quickest way to check who is subscribed to the list is to check the roster (subscriber password required): http://mail.citizendium.org/mailman/roster/cz-wikiformat (you can get to this directly from the main page; the subscriber list can be accessed from the heading 'Cz-wikiformat Subscribers' at http://mail.citizendium.org/mailman/listinfo/cz-wikiformat)
- However, this only lists email addresses and not names of registered users, so I have added you as an admin to the mailing list so you can check the registered members through the Membership Management page. I'll email you the password and how to use this shortly.
- Re: Monitoring the list: all emails sent through to the list by non-subscribers will be forwarded first to the list admins. A copy of the body of the email text is sent to the list admin with a link to the approval page (admin password required to log in) and it's fairly easy to tell at first glance if it's spam or a request. I think as a publicly advertised address, and one that permits attachments (am only limiting it to known document formats, however I know that some well-known formats may have viruses) the extra check would stop any spam coming through.
- This isn't too much extra work for me: with twenty-five odd lists to track, several of which seem to be on automatic spambot lists, all pending requests are usually dealt with within 24 hours.
- Also, if there are people who are going to be regularly using the service, we can add them to an 'approved senders' list so that their emails are automatically sent through and don't need to be held for approval. At least that way a) we already know that their requests are legitimate and b) there won't be any time delay after their request. Not too sure how busy the list will be once advertised, but getting legitimate senders on the approved senders list will keep the workflow moving. Louise Valmoria 17:54, 1 January 2008 (CST)
Write-a-thon
Hi Louise! (My, it's nice to have someone in my time zone for a change!)
Did you see my answer at my chat space?

mailing list permissions
Hi, thanks for your note. I do plan on sending messages pretty regularly, so it would be really helpful to be added to the approved senders list. I'll likely be using two different accounts to send the notes so it would be helpful if you could add both of them to the list. --Joe Quick 20:33, 5 January 2008 (CST)
- No problems Joe, thanks for your note--email addresses received :) I will add them to the approved senders list now.Louise Valmoria 22:59, 5 January 2008 (CST)
mailing list (again)
One Dmitri Glinsky sent me a direct reply to the message I posted on the history workgroup mailing list asking to be unsubscribed from the list. Send me an email if you need his email address to follow through. :-) --Joe Quick 00:42, 7 January 2008 (CST)
Style pick-ups
Louise: You are most welcome. One of the things I like about CZ is that everyone is so damn civil! I dropped by this morning expecting someone to have their knickers in a twist about that edit, and, instead, I get a pat. How refreshing. Glad to have you on board with the Psych section...we're a bit short on hands. The more you can contribute, the better!
As for style, etc., what you contributed was just fine. Oone of the failings in Larry's plan is that when you get a bunch of pedants together, we tend to write for each other, and forget that even the Times is written at a 5th grade level!
Well, best, and see you around.
Blessings... --Michael J. Formica 07:34, 8 January 2008 (CST)
- Indeed, I enjoy the civility here at CZ as well--I feel it makes it somewhat easier to contribute. And I really do appreciate the stylistic edits; writing for an encyclopedia provides different challenges than what I usually write, and it's an interesting challenge. It's good to work with you. Personality disorder cycle
The personality disorder cycle is now complete. Articles for all currently identified primary personality disorders have been added, along with internal references to the Personality disorder, the Cluster desriptions, and a template detailing both the clusters, and their associated disorders. Feel free to jump in! --Michael J. Formica 08:12, 17 January 2008 (CST)
Coiling stats
Ciao Louise,
I got your stats on animal coiling. Unfortunately, numbers are not yet large enough. HOWEVER, I plan to continue our poll during next write-a-thon.
