Irene Khan[1] (born 24th December 1956) is the seventh secretary-general of the human rights organisation Amnesty International - the first Muslim, and the first Asian person, to occupy the role.
Khan studied law at the University of Manchester in the UK and a Harvard Law School in the USA. In 2008, she was the unsuccessful candidate for the ceremonial position of Chancellor of the University of Manchester, England.
