This article is about Georgia (U.S. state). For other uses of the term Georgia, please see Georgia (disambiguation).
Georgia is a state in the southeast of the United States of America. It was one of the original thirteen states forming a union in 1776. In the American Civil War (1861-1865), Georgia was one of the eleven states that seceded the United States to form the Confederate States of America.
Georgia is bordered on the south by Florida; on the east by the Atlantic Ocean and South Carolina; on the west by Alabama (U.S. state) and by Florida in the extreme southwest; and on the north by Tennessee and North Carolina (U.S. state).
The state capital is Atlanta.
