New Hanover County is in the southeastern Coastal Plain region of North Carolina and has an estimated population of 174,300 people (as of the year 2004). Wilmington is the county seat, and it is also home to the communities of Castle Hayne and Seabreeze. The county was named in honor of England’s King George I of the House of Hanover.
