Pheasant is a term applied many of the larger birds of the family Phasianidae. They are native to southeastern Asia, but can now be found wild across Asia, Europe and in parts of North America.

Most pheasants prefer grassy areas with brush for cover. They feed and nest on the ground. In most species, males are brightly colored, and females less so. The males also have leg spurs, and sometimes fleshy ornaments on the face.

Pheasants are hunted recreationally in Europe and North America. When eaten, the birds are frequently roasted whole.
