Proposed revision/replacement
I propose to rename this article "Credit rating agency", to retain only a small fraction of its content and to add the following material about credit rating agencies:
- Their methods of risk assessment;
- A Tutorials subpage note on their errors (such as this);
- The part played by their incompetence in triggering the financial crisis (as revealed by evidence to various independent enquiries);
- Regulatory measures and proposals;
- A timeline of their major downgrades of commercial and sovereign debt;
- External links to the agencies and to their newly-appointed regulatory authorities.
I also propose to create a separate linked article entitled "Sovereign default" to cover the causes and history of sovereign defaults, and of recoveries from them.
