Lois McMaster Bujold is an American science fiction and fantasy writer who, as of 2022, has won seven Hugo awards (fan-voted) and three Nebula awards (writer-voted). Bujold's most famous set of recurring characters are in the Vorkosigan universe, which is pure science fiction. Her two additional recurring universes (Sharing Knife, and Penric & Desdemona) are in the fantasy genre.

The "Vorkosigan" series

The first novel of the science fiction Vorkosigan series appeared in 1986, and Bujold published an additional story in the universe as late as 2018. It consists of nearly two dozen novels or stories, and a variety of omnibus books which combine multiple stories into one volume.

The stories were not all written in chronological order for the universe. Between the jumbling of actual publication dates vs. story order, and the existence of several omnibus editions, it can be difficult to catalog all the works in the Vorkosigan saga.

In order published

  1. Shards of Honor (Jun 1986)
  2. Ethan of Athos (Dec 1986)
  3. Warrior's Apprentice (Aug 1986)
  4. The Borders of Infinity (1987)
  5. Falling Free (Apr 1988)
  6. Brothers in Arms (Jan 1989)
  7. Mountains of Mourning (May 1989)

  9. The Vor Game (Sep 1990)
  10. Barrayar (July 1991)
  11. Mirror Dance (1994)
  12. Cetaganda (Dec 1995)
  13. Dreamweaver's Dilemma (Dec 1995)
  14. Memory (Bujold novel)|Memory (1996)
