A new Russian multirole fighter described by its manufacturer, Sukhoi, as an interim aircraft between fourth generation and true fifth generation fighter aircraft, the Su-35 is a descendant of the Su-27.[1]Just as the U.S. F-18 Super Hornet is really a new airplane compared to the visually similar F-18 Hornet, the Su-35 is no Su-27. Just as the Super Hornet will, at least for some missions, be superseded by the F-35C Lightning II variant of the Joint Strike Fighter, the Su-35 may be replaced by some fifth generation fighter. Sukhoi is aggressively positioning the Su-35 for the export market. AvionicsFlight systemsPayloadReferences
