Karate (Japanese: empty hand) is a martial arts discipline in which all parts of the hands, arms, feet and legs may be used for striking an opponent or for blocking the opponent's own blows. It originated in Japan and is particularly associated with Okinawa. Karate is also a sport but contact stops short and points are awarded for each action. Karate is contested at the Olympic Games having been accepted ahead of the 2020 tournament.[1]
