The Liberal Party of Australia is a centre-right political party in Australia.

The Liberal Party was formed in 1944 to compete with the centre-left Australian Labor Party for political office, both at the federal level and in the Australian states.

As of 2006 the Liberal Party held power federally since winning government in 1996, and governs in its traditional coalition with The Nationals. In state politics the Liberals are in opposition in all the Australian states and territories.
