The Drosophilidae is a family within the Diptera, the order of the flies. Species belonging to this family can be found in all continents from the tropics to the Arctic. The family includes the most used model organism in biology, Drosophila melanogaster. The family is subdivided in two subfamilies, the Drosophilinae and the Steganinae.
