Started by Pope John Paul II, World Youth Day (WYD) is an international gathering of Catholic youth held every two to three years. WYD attracts pilgrims from around the world, including many bishops, priests, deacons, religious, and laypeople. WYD is organized by the Roman Catholic Church.
