The Algoma Intrepid is the ninth ship in Algoma Central's Equinox class.[1][2]
At 650 feet vessels of the Equinox class are shorter than the Seawaymax length of 730 feet.[3] In addition these vessels mount their self-unloading boom from their bows, not from their stern superstructure.[1] Both of these design choices make it easier for them to use smaller harbors, and to poke their boom over unloading places that would be harder to reach with a stern-mounted boom. Cleveland's harbor facilities lie on the relatively narrow and winding Cuyoga River.
She was built in Croatia, and was delivered in late 2020.[2][3]
