Inner Mongolia (Simplified Chinese: 内蒙古; Pinyin: Nèi Měnggǔ; Mongolian: Öbür mongɣul) is a Mongol Autonomous Region in the north China. The region covers most of the northern edge of china in curved shape. With an area of 1,183,000 square kilometres, it is the third largest region in China. To the north is Mongolia and the North east tip of Inner Mongolia borders with Russia. The other borders of the region are with other Chinese provinces, going clockwise form the north east they are Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and Gansu. The population is relatively low compared to other Chinese provinces with just 23,840,000 people giving a population density of 20.2 people per square Kilometre. The majority of the population is Han Chinese though 17% of the people are ethnic Mongolian.
