Dreadnought is a generic term for a ship or other military platform much superior to competitors. The Royal Navy has had numerous ships designated HMS Dreadnought, the best-known being the first all-big-gun battleship, ''HMS Dreadnought (1905)'' Template:Dabhdr
- HMS Dreadnought (1553) [r]: A 40-gun sailing warship [e] of 40 guns built in 1553. [1]
- HMS Dreadnought (1573) [r]: A 41-gun sailing warship [e] a 41-gun ship launched in 1573, rebuilt in 1592 and 1614, then broken up in 1648.
- HMS Dreadnought (1654) [r]: A 52-gun frigate, originally HMS Torrington, renamed HMS Dreadnought in 1660 [e] a 52-gun Speaker-class frigate launched in 1654 as Torrington, renamed HMS Dreadnought at the Restoration in 1660, and lost in 1690.
- HMS Dreadnought (1691) [r]: A 60-gun fourth-rate ship [e] a 60-gun fourth rate ship of the line launched in 1691, rebuilt in 1706 and broken up 1748.
