I am professor of Mathematical Statistics in the department of mathematics, science faculty, University of Leiden, Netherlands. My scientific interests are in statistics, probability, history and philosophy of both. I have worked both on the pure theory of statistics, and in various application fields, in particular: medical statistics, survival analysis, quantum statistics, forensic statistics. On the theoretical side I am interested in asymptotic theory, in particular, non-parametric maximum likelihood, asymptotic optimality for estimation of infinite dimensional parameters, the functional delta method. Biographical detail: I was born in 1951 in the UK but spent my professional life in the Netherlands.
