Cefuzonam is a second-generation cephalosporin type of antibiotic medication used to treat bacterial infections. Its antibacterial activity is due to the presence of a beta-lactam core structure, which binds with penicillin-binding proteins within bacterial cells, thereby inhibiting cell wall synthesis in the bacteria.
