'Cyprus is an island in the eastern Meditteranean. It is divided into two political entites, the mainly Greek-speaking Republic of Cyprus, which is a menmber of the European Union, and the mainly Turkish-speaking Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which is recognised only by Turkey.
