Urban-type settlement

Urban-type settlement (Russian: посёлок городского типа) is an official settlement status in Russia, Ukraine and some other countries of former Soviet Union. Urban-type settlement is thus located in niche between rural settlement (village) and town/city. Urban-type settlement is not obligatory larger than rural type settlement, the main difference is that the majority of urban-type settlemet inhabitants work in economy sectors other than agriculture. The majority of urban-type settlements are industrial, there are also some resort urban-type settlements (thus inhabitants work in tourist services).
