(January 13, 1901- January 24, 1985) was an American poet during the 1930s through the 1970s and was described as "the red-starred laureate, the Joe Hill of the Communist Movement" by the The New Republic. In 1937, Lewis's poetry won the prestigious Harriet Monroe Literary Prize.
