Nazi SS Hauptsturmfuhrer and physician at Auschwitz Concentration Camp, involved in direct killings and unethical medical experiments on humans. Escaped prosecution and died, in 1979, in Paraguay. While a relatively low rank and with only mild efforts to arrest in 1945, he became the best-known escaped Nazi, becoming a popular culture symbol of evil and inspiring many fictional and sensational writing.
