Tartaros [r]: From Greek mythology, it is the underworld, the land of the dead, ruled by the Greek god Hades who was, according to Hesiod one of the three primordial gods (other two are Gaia and Eros), according to Elizabeth Vandiver, Classics scholar and authority on Greek mythology and Greek tragedy including the Iliad, Odyssey, Aeneid, Homer, and Virgil. This definition is based on her course Classical Mythology from The Teaching Company.
