This subgroup emphasizes the application processing and the software involved in provisioning, load distribution, and computation. It does not maintain a rigid distinction between physical and virtual distribution, such that it can deal with parallel computing networks, virtualization on physical devices, and distributed virtual computing as in cloud computing. It deals with the requirements for data transport among them, but see CZ: Internet operations subgroup for the actual communications systems.
