The Wii is a video game console manufactured by Japanese electronics company Nintendo. It was launched in November 2006 and is part of the seventh generation of game consoles intended for the home. In 2009, it had outsold both Microsoft's Xbox 360 Sony's and PlayStation 3 [1]. As of June 2023, it has sold over 101 million units[2]. Its defining feature is its controller, a wireless, motion-sensitive device called a Wii Remote; an optional joystick attachment is referred to as the Nunchuck. In 2009, an accessory called the Wii MotionPlus was released; when attached to the Wii remote, the Wii remote would be able to detect more complex motions. This eventually led to the release of the Wii Remote Plus, a version of the Wii Remote with the Wii MotionPlus technology built into the remote. Wii games are no longer in production in North America as of 2020 [3]. The Wii was succeeded by the Nintendo Wii U in 2012.
