|'''Launch workgroup tagging of articles'''
|width="25%" valign="top"|
Any article related to the Biology Workgroup should be placed in the category <nowiki>[[Category:Biology Workgroup]]</nowiki>".  This means that we think the biology workgroup will be one of the main groups to manage this article. Note, the tag is *not* "<nowiki>[[Category:Biology]]</nowiki>"; that's because we're attaching the article to its *management*.

'''Launch area management: deferred'''  We should probably defer selection of discipline workgroup management until after more people in each area have arrived, and we have had a chance to finalize how this management will be selected.

The organisation we inherited from Wikipedia is subdivided into ''disciplines within biology'', however,  we do not have to follow such a format. We can move forward with subgroups that seem more natural, and I imagine some subgroups will include several related disciplines. We can discuss this more on the [http://forum.citizendium.org/index.php/topic,260.0.html subgroups thread], in the biology forum, as we reach a critical mass of editors and authors.

Relevant lists and headers from Wikipedia are shown at the bottom of this section. Also, the list of high priority articles in the next section are currently categorized by discipline.

==High priority tasks==
This list of tasks is not complete but it can be used as a starting point for new tasks or focusing our efforts.  Tasks in bold are regarded as a higher priority.  Those struck through are considered as low priority.

==Core article==
The list below is adapted from the high priority articles above and the small list that has already started at [[CZ:Core_Articles#Biology]].  These are articles that we deem vital to get the biology section going.  Please add and delete from this list.  We are restricted to 198 articles that we think are needed now.

For a more comprehensive list search for the red links in the [[CZ:Biology_Workgroup/list]] or [[CZ:Biology_Workgroup/concepts]].

Just to clarify, I combined the list the concepts and the core article we already had.  I then edited for duplicates and removed items that did not seem to fit the core concept. We now have 300 articles. Feel free to add topics that are missing. Also feel free to group articles into topic related concepts, although this alphabetical list is probably OK for those wanting to see what is missing from CZ. ==Tree-of-life subgroup==
A major part of the articles in the biology workgroup can be categorized under the concept of [[Tree of Life]]. All article about a species, genus or any other taxonomic level are part of this subgroup.

Taxoboxes facilitate the navigation through the Tree-of-Life and each taxon is required to have one using the [[:Template:Taxobox]].

Former tech staff:

  • Joshua Sadule (in 2020 if not earlier; on the server side of things; exited Mar. 2022)
  • Francisco Reyes (since March 27th, 2015; exited Mar. 2022; still advises some)

About our staff

The Citizendium is run by a collection of volunteers. Pat Palmer is working with an Advisory Team on policy, goals and membership and is handling new account requests, and User:Sergei Chekanov upgraded the software in March 2022; at the same time as the software upgrade, hardware was also upgraded to include SSD drives and a faster processor.

Until 2021, Francisco Reyes and Joshua Sadule worked (along with occasional assistance from others) towards upgrading the server and outdated wiki software, and generously handled many repairs and backups.

In 2020, domain ownership was transferred to Pat Palmer, who expects to continue operating the wiki with a high degree of transparency, with gratitude to all the volunteers helping keep things going. Also since 2020, Citizendium has occasionally paid for professional tech support in upgrading the software behind the wiki.

New volunteers are welcome! Let us know if you'd like to become involved.

Payments

Contributors are not paid for writing articles and we have no plans to allow that. The wiki is also free to use and all our articles are available under a free license. We rely entirely on donations from our volunteers and supporters.

In terms of work on the project itself, this is a volunteer project. Occasionally, management has had to pay a contractor briefly for technical work, but mostly we do it ourselves. No one helping manage the wiki receives any salary or benefits.
