Sir Fred Hoyle (1915-2001) was an astronomer, cosmologist, and science fiction author.

"Born in Yorkshire, England. He attended Emmanuel College at Cambridge and was then hired to teach mathematics at Cambridge University. Later he moved to the United States to take a job as a professor of astronomy and philosophy at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York." (reference for quote: ("Fred Hoyle."
