Geothermal energy is energy extracted from the heat stored beneath the Earth's surface by means of water (or steam) circulating in deep wells. Geothermal systems for homes don't make electricity; instead, they use the sustained temperature of the ground to heat or cool a building or buildings. See the Geothermal power article on Wikipedia for details.
