North Leigh Roman Villa was first built in either the 1st or 2nd century A.D. It was abandoned in the early 5th century, around the time the Roman army withdrew from Britain. The villa consisted of three wings arranged around a courtyard. The site is curated by English Heritage and is open to the public.[1] The villa is protected as a scheduled monument.[2] North Leigh Roman Villa was first excavated in the 1810s; the site was next excavated in 1910, the first of four periods of archaeological investigations in the 20th century.[3]
