Congresses of the United States refer to the set of periods in which different groups of elected members of the U.S. Congress assumed office and went into working session. The 111th Congress convened in January 2009.
It can be useful to group Congresses by various historical periods, such as the political parties that made them up, major external events such as wars and economic crises, etc.
