Import

Can we not import articles from WP anymore? --Robert W King 15:05, 7 August 2007 (CDT)

Was just in the process of doing as you posted :-) I was in two minds how much to import from Wikipedia: I am not well-versed enough in the subject to have written this article myself but felt it that there is probably good information here and that it is best to have an article than none at all. I do feel that this article needs a bit of cleaning up, though—much of it could be left out (particularly the "Later Use" section) as it is probably beyond the average reader's scope of interest. It needs expert-checking definitely. I am not confident enough to say what to take out and what to leave in so I defer to more knowledgeable authors to clean up. Images in article

I recreated the images in this article from scratch as the original image creator from Wikipedia has been banned from there so I do not have their real name and cannot contact them. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the images, only that they match the original images from the Wikipedia article. They will need to be checked by an expert. Mark Jones 16:09, 7 August 2007 (CDT)

C to c

It is a pity this article was imported from Wikipedia before the frequent mentions of capital C to refer to the letter could be altered to c, lower case italic being normal usage. I shall be altering it if no-one has any objection. Robert Thorpe 17:11, 23 October 2007 (CDT)

Done (and not just c, of course). I heartily echo Robert W. King's opening comment above. It is an excellent article, but I think Citizendium should be an alternative. Robert Thorpe 09:44, 24 October 2007 (CDT)

Linguistics workgroup, not Literature?

All the other letters of the alphabet are in the Linguistics workgroup. I assume the assignment of "C" to Literature was just a typo, so I'll move it. Bruce M. Tindall 22:53, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

confusing wording

Though very common in English, c has (as in French, Portuguese, Catalan and many varieties of Spanish) no sound of its own. It is either in the back of the throat, exactly like k (kíng) and q (quêen) or it is a hiss, like the most common sound of s (sô, híss). (The accents show stress and pronunciation: see English spellings.)

What does it mean — "c has no sound of its own" ? (Chunbum Park 01:20, 24 October 2011 (UTC))

Thanks. I'll change it. Ro Thorpe 10:45, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
OK, I've expanded the lead. I've kept the offending phrase, because I think it is elegant and memorable---and it made you think! So what do you reckon: is it clear now? Ro Thorpe 14:10, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
Oh definitely. Thank you for making it clear. (Chunbum Park 16:12, 27 October 2011 (UTC))
Pleasure. Ro Thorpe 18:00, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
