English and the IPA
Later we should emphasise that the IPA is for transcribing any language as spoken by neurologically and physically typical speakers (there's another one for transcribing speech problems); at the moment it's a bit English-centric, even though it was developed by British and French teachers from the English alphabet with some additions. It's also a little RP-centric; there are lots of other sounds used in other accents of English. John Stephenson 02:23, 3 April 2008 (CDT)
