Overhaul
This article would benefit, in my opinion, from an overhaul to improve its clarity, remove irrelevant matter and repair its omissions and lack of citations. The present arrangement of the material is such that for much of it a piecemeal edit would not serve the purpose. Any volunteers?

Fit for approval?
I believe that I have replaced the article as it was on 18th February with one that is fit for approval, but I should welcome an informed account of any deficiencies that it may have in that respect. Nick Gardner 22:19, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
Franchise
"A restricted right to vote in elections of Members of Parliament was establised in the 15th century by the Franchise Act, 1429, which conferred that right upon freeholders of land worth more than 40 shillings ..."
- I've now checked the original Act and confirmed my memory (and Wikipedia): this Act applied only to the knights of the shire, who were heavily outnumbered by the citizens and burgesses. Needs rewriting. Peter Jackson 08:23, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
