I'm providing the Biblical basis for the article, since I feel this isn't a subject addressed much or that well elsewhere on the web. There might be more to add as addressed outside the Bible, I'm just not familiar enough with such references to provide them, and am sure others can fill in anything I miss. Hopefully this serves as a starting point for a solidly-based article. --Joshua Zambrano 07:32, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Where did the notion of an adversary of God originate? I thought the Hebrews borrowed it from Zoroastrianism, but was it the other way around? Independent invention? Both getting it from some third source? Sandy Harris 09:40, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
I think it's generally accepted by scholars, though not of course by fundamentalists, that it came from Zoroastrianism. Peter Jackson 10:00, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

The identification of Satan and Lucifer is disputed. The article at present trests them as interchangeable. Peter Jackson 10:28, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

More generally, someone needs to go through checking every single reference to see what name of the devil is used in each one, then rearrange them into groups and discussing suggested identifications of these names with each other. Without that, I think the article can't stand and should be reduced to a stub. Peter Jackson 10:34, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

Oh, and if that is done the article should probably be moved to devil. Peter Jackson 10:35, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
