Moving toward approval...

To start, the lede needs to say, positively, what it was, as opposed to what it was called by its detractors. You do explain abominations in the third-from-last paragraph; perhaps some of this text needs to move up.

Should anything be sourced? It does seem clear there was a bill. Did it pass? What was the legislative history?

It would be nice if there were some sources, either as inline citations or in the bibliography section - I know nothing about this subject so after reading the article I am left wondering where to go next to research.
Because I am unfamiliar with the subject I can't comment on the accuracy of the text. I would say that perhaps the article may benefit from some examples - if we had the prices of some common goods and the tariffs on them it might help to provide context. The article mentions a few times that the tariffs were abominably high but I am left wondering how high. David Finn 06:58, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
