Colin McAllister is Physics Lecturer for the Department of Foundation Studies at Curtin University of Technology, Sarawak, Malaysia. He is from Northern Ireland, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours in Physics from Queen’s University of Belfast. He later obtained a Master of Science by research in Computer Science at Dublin City University, where he also lectured part time. Although he worked as a Software Engineer for many years, he always wanted to teach. He wrote computer programs for telecommunications equipment and for manufacturing industry. He lived in Massachusetts, USA until 2007. He used a DEC VAX computer to maintain legacy software that controls Ion Implanters, which make computer chips. Working in industry, he applied the principles of modern physics on a daily basis. He does not have a record of academic publishing, but he has contributed to the development of many high technology products. He wrote his first scientific program in FORTRAN in 1978, at the Transport and Road Research Laboratory in England. He plays chess and is learning Chinese Chess or Xiangqi.
