I have worked in the computer industry as a Systems Administrator, Programmer and Database Administrator for 25 years. I have recently completed a PhD in Computer Science, looking at Automatic Memory Management (Garbage Collection) in the context of a Java virtual machine. My main fields of expertise are operating systems (in particular Unix/Linux and VMS), programming languages and language implementation. I am an active contributor to several open source software projects, including the Jikes RVM Java virtual machine and the DaCapo benchmarks. In my undergraduate studies I majored in Pure Maths, and I'm particularly interested in algebra and topology. I have interests in many areas of science, including cosmology, quantum theory, genomics and molecular biology. I am interested in writing/contributing to articles on various computer science topics, and in editing articles on Memory Management.
