Born in New York City, NY, I joined the USAF at the age of 17, with parental consent, and trained to be a Law Enforcement Specialist. In 1983, after returning from an overseas tour in the United Kingdom (RAF Greenham Common/RAF Welford – Greenham being the site of the infamous CND protestors and the GLCM), I was assigned to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. While there, I was selected to become a Security Police Investigator. While in the military, due to progressive rank and experience, I served as an air base ground defense flight squad leader (aka ‘ABGD’ – the Air Force’s ‘infantry’), police patrol sergeant, armorer, and Emergency Services Team Leader (‘EST’ civilian equivalent is ‘SWAT’). While in the military, I served five tours of duty; two in the UK, one in Texas, one in Florida, and one in the Republic of South Korea.
After leaving the military in 1992, I first took a job with a trucking firm and then joined the Little Rock Police Department, Arkansas; where I graduated first in my academy class in 1995. In 2003, I left the LRPD to join a civilian business contracted by the Department of Homeland Security to travel nationwide teaching first responders (police, fire, EMS) about weapons of mass destruction and various detection technologies (primarily radiological, chemical, and biological agents). In 2006 I was hired for a brief period to be the State Instructor for the Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP) due to the presence of the chemical munitions located at the US Army’s Pine Bluff Arsenal, Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
I am a recognized subject matter expert on police tactics, protocol, and procedure, WMD/detection technologies and equipment, and police investigative technique, specifically interviews and interrogations. I am not a college graduate, but do possess numerous content specific certificates and college semester hours attesting to my learning in these areas. My most recent published work is the Little Rock Police Department’s Field Training Officer’s Guide, used by senior officers to train newly assigned (‘rookie’) officers. Additionally, garnered from the military, I have extensive training and experience in combat tactics, with a specialty in reconnaissance.
My personal interests are US/world travel, stamp collecting (US issues only), conducting research, and reading (primarily, spy, thriller, horror, and non-fiction related to terrorism and the above topics I am considered a SME in). In 2000, I married a woman who is a Geologist for the State of Arkansas and often draw upon her extensive knowledge (she has a Master’s Degree in Integrated Sciences/Geology). When it is financially feasible to do so, it is my intention to return to college to obtain a Doctorate of Pharmacology.
