Victim [r]: A creature, usually a human, who suffers harm by another creature, and suffers a kind of injury, loss, damage. The etymology comes from the Latin victima meaning a sacrificial animal, in which blood was shed in a religious rite. Today it can mean persons who suffer during a natural disaster such as an earthquake, tornado, hurricane, landslide or flood. [e]
